IN THE MAKING: Artistic Methods as New Paths to Change

David Garcia has written a chapter in In the Making: Artistic Methods as New Paths to Change, “SITE AS SOURCE, Innovation, Relevance and Aesthetics from Dedicated Site Engagement.”

The article describes core aspects of the author’s artistic methodology from the importance of the implicit and explicit power of engaging with site to its necessity as an ethical positioning when dealing with territory, resources and built space.

It describes how this approach can be a source of aesthetic languages that derive from context, to innovations that allow for testing sustainable solutions for local and global challenges.

Crucially, it manifests the importance of manufacturing of ideas into physical prototypes, to assess concepts on site and engage with communities.

From manufacturing of carbon capturing clay facades in Morocco, to DIY energy alternatives for the flooded communities of Jakarta and interviews with communities who are witnessing coastal loss, three projects presently exhibited will be used as examples, structuring the article.
