AURORA CENTER

Under the Open Sky is a recreational area consisting of the Aurora Center Ilulissat (Greenland) information center and the Qilaap Sillia (Milky Way) walking trail. Aurora Center Ilulissat and Qilaap Sillia will link scientific knowledge with cultural stories about celestial phenomena. Aurora Center Ilulissat will communicate the Northern Lights, while Qilaap Sillia will highlight the constellations and the local tradition world view.

The purpose is for the area to motivate all age groups to an exciting excursion and be a meeting place for the local population in nature. It aims to support the local population's use of nature and open new types of experiences.

The project has been developed in collaboration with DTU and through conversations with the Greenlandic population and anthropological studies of the culture in West Greenland. We would like to extend special thanks to archaeologist Asta Mønsted and astrophysicist Ivalu Barlach Christensen for their input into the design of the project. In addition, a big thank you to the people of Ilulissat, who have engaged in the project throughout its development.
